Below is an abridged version of an address given by Amanda Jones, immediate past President of the Rondebosch CWL
St Michaels is a dynamic parish, with many diocesan events held here. I heard it once refered to as "The Headquarters". Needless to say our ladies work hard.
Our work is twofold: assisting the parish while raising funds for charity. All our revenue from monthly craft markets, funeral teas and donations are distributed amongst our chosen charities. These include CWD Buckets of love, Gugulethu Preschool, Peninsula School Feeding, Sisters Incorporated, the Haven Night Shelter, Nazareth House, SA Guide Dogs, St Michaels Home for abused girls, Goedgedaght, St Vincent de Paul, GAPA, Mater Domini, Holy Cross, Salesians, St Anthony's Pre-school, Nerina Old Age Home, Rape Crisis. There is also the Suburban Clothing Guild - each member donates two new garments, knitted, sewn or bought and distributed to the needy.
The CWL helps our spiritual growth and deepens our faith. At our monthly meetings, in addition to our league prayers, we are blessed with spiritual input from our Spiritual Director, Rev Tony Van Vuuren. We also hold an annual Day of Recollection at Schoenstadt, and attend the Women's World Day of Prayer. Thank you to our spiritual director, and to all the ladies for their support, prayers, hard work and loyalty to the League. God bless all and our work.
